Yes you are right. Recently honorable defence minister Rajnath Singh has announced that Siachen Glacier can be visited by tourists.

Siachen Glacier is the most difficult terrain of the world & the highest battlefield of the world till now & it is an active battlefield where Indian & Pakistani army is deployed. It is a glacier which is situated in the eastern Karakoram ranges in Himalayas and on North side the LOC between India & Pakistan ends.it is the most longest glacier at 76 kms. On one side it is surrounded by Pakistan’s border and on the other side China’s (Aksai china) border ends.the entire glacier remains under the occupation and administration of india since 1984.

This glacier falls from an altitude of 18875 ft. above sea-level at its head on Indira col. And lowest point ends at its terminus about 11875 ft.

Distance from Leh

Siachen base camp is 225 away from Leh.and it connects to the black top road on the bank of Khardung La & Nubra river and the base camp’s altitude is 12000 feet. Kumar Post can also be visited by the tourists along with Siachen Glacier.and it is at an altitude of 15000 ft.central govt. has already announced to open this place in October 2019.

How to reach

First you have to reach Leh and there are so many ways to reach to leh.if you want to travel by road then you can come via manali-leh and if you want to travel by air then you can come via delhi.first thing what you have to do is to obtain the permission from Nubra Valley. And you can also apply online for the permission. If you want to get the permit offline then you can take from DC office when you’re in leh.

After taking the permission you have to reach Khardung La then Khalsar will come to your way, after crossing Khalsar you will reach to Panamic then you have to cross Warsi and now your destination comes.

Where to stay

There are no many accommodation but you will get homestay at Warsi and the distance between Warsi & Siachen base camp is 23 km.
